しかし自分に置き換えてみたとき、ある違和感を覚えました。もし自分が日本を離れて異国で作品を描こうとしたら、まず「日本人である自分」を示すものを描いて勝負するだろう、ということです。アイデンティティの拠り所として、日本の伝統的なものを取り込もうとするはずです。ところがゴッホは、オランダで描いたものやオランダ的なものをパリに持ち込まず、まっさらになってゼロから絵を生み出しました。フランスの地でフランスの風景や光、人物を描きながら、自身のルーツを遡らなかった。彼にとってオランダや故郷はどんな意味を持っていたのだろう、と少し不思議に思いました。
この映画を見たことで、ゴッホの作品を直に見られるのがより楽しみになりました。
